Holistic and Integrative Pediatrician

Dr. Linda has been practicing medicine for 31 years and is on a mission to make holistic wellness and natural medicine readily available to every family who seeks it. She is Board Certified in General Pediatrics, Pediatric Infectious Diseases and in Integrative and Holistic Medicine. She has also trained in Acupuncture, Pediatric Hypnosis, Reiki, Energy Medicine, Clinical Homeopathy and Grief Recovery and is well-educated in the use of herbs and supplements to keep you healthy and restore you to health when it is temporarily lost.

Dr. Linda owned and operated her own Pediatric Integrative practice for 15 years while she was raising two very active children (now young adults) while dealing with a diagnosis of fibromyalgia as well as a sleep disorder. She was married for 20 years and was given the task of caring for her husband and supporting him during his transition after a losing battle with cancer.  As a result of her education and training as well as her personal and professional experiences Dr. Linda sought out and developed holistic practices and solutions to support busy working parents in their quest for ultimate health and wellness in body, mind, emotions and Spirit for both their children and themselves.

My Story

This website is my effort to make health and wellness information available, easy to use, and relevant to your everyday life as you raise children and families who are healthy and happy in body, emotions, mind, and Spirit. It will also will offer information on safe, easy to use, and reliable methods of treating dis-ease, should it occur so that you can discuss it with your healthcare provider and be the confident advocate for your child’s health and wellness that you want to be.

Raising our children, the next generation of people to take care of our world is the single most important job any of us will ever have. It is also the ONLY job for which none of us gets any training. This website will offer insights and education about parenting that you can tailor to your own specific needs because there is no one size fits all parenting style because there is not one specific type of family. Each child is unique and has his or her own strengths and challenges just as each parent is unique and has their own pattern of strengths and challenges. My aim is to offer tools that will allow you to parent from your specific strengths to your baby and child’s unique strengths and talents.

A little more about me and why I am doing this:

When I had my son, I was already a Board-Certified Pediatrician, had completed the first year of my Pediatric Infectious Diseases Fellowship at Emory University, and had just spent some time volunteering with UNICEF in Jordan to coordinate nutritional aid to Iraqi families in crisis as a result of the first Gulf War. I was sure when my son was born (even though I was really scared) that I had all the information I needed to raise a baby. I had treated people on two different continents and from many different cultures, I had taken care of sick premature babies, the smallest literally the size of my palm; I had cared for critically ill children in the ICU, and had taken care of hundreds of children with illnesses ranging from ear infections and diabetes, to malaria and septicemia (bacteria in the blood).

I soon found out however, that all my years of training and experience had not, in fact, prepared me for the day to day, moment by moment job of being a parent. My son would not breastfeed, he was a very sensitive baby, was formula intolerant, had colic and would not sleep. I had gone back to complete my training in Pediatric Infectious Diseases at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (which at the time was ranked the number 1 children’s hospital in the U.S.) and so I had access to some of the best Pediatricians in the world, but sadly, like me like me, they had not been trained in how to raise a healthy child with challenges like reflux, fussiness, colic, or poor sleep, to name a few of our issues. So, I set out on my own to find the answers that my son needed which sent me down a completely different path than the one I had always planned on following. I learned about the importance of gut health to the health of the whole body, different ways to deal with colic, and learned as much as I could about sleep, sleep habits and associations.

As a result of my son’s challenges I developed fibromyalgia and was also told there was nothing that could be done about it. I set out to find answers and I did, as a result, I went to UCLA and got trained in acupuncture and in Chinese medicine theory which is a beautiful way to look at health and how to restore it.

My Aunt was diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer when my son was a year old and she was told that she could try chemotherapy but that it was not very effective for her stage of cancer. Again, I looked for answers and discovered the Mind Body connection. I went to the University of Minnesota and got trained in Pediatric hypnosis. I taught my Aunt self-hypnosis and she got her cancer into full remission for over a year and a half.

The more I practiced these skills with my patients the more convinced I was that there was a lot more for me to learn so I got trained in Reiki and in Energy Work. I also got training in Herbal Medicine, Nutritional Medicine and Supplements which I used with my patients as well as my family; it was so amazing and very gratifying to see how well my families responded to these different modalities of care.

At this time, I had my own solo practice and I got to make my own rules so I was somewhat isolated from what was going on in the rest of the medical field until, that is, my husband was diagnosed with stage 4 of a very rare form of cancer. Through this experience I came face to face with the huge problems in the medical and insurance systems right now; we went to the best hospitals and clinics in the world for his care but were treated like numbers rather than like people with a bad medical problem. It was dehumanizing and I began to see why a lot of my new patients had been coming in frustrated and angry with doctors and health care providers in general. I began to grieve not just my husband’s grave illness but the illness of the medical system, when had it become so uncaring, cold and impersonal?

I used every tool in my arsenal to keep my husband alive and to make sure the quality of his life was the best it could be given the circumstances, unfortunately, even though he lived 16 months rather than the 4 months predicted by the medical system, he did not survive the ordeal with cancer. After his passing I decided to make all the suffering he and my family had gone through make a difference in the world. I decided to make reliable Holistic Medical information accessible to as many parents as I could, I knew that they were looking for it and I knew that they are often overwhelmed by. Parents, the unsung heroes who are always on call, and who are quietly performing the single most important job in the world for free. Parents who want the best for their children but are often overwhelmed by the sheer amount of information and skills needed to raise a healthy child I also resolved to make self-care as well as child care skills and tips available to you, the parents who deserve so much more care than you give yourselves to let you know not only that you are not alone but that you are also very appreciated.
