Are you familiar with the saying: “It ain’t what you say but the way that you say it?” Well, my rephrasing of that is: “It’s not just what you eat, but the way that you eat it.”
Mealtimes don’t have to be just times to eat food, you can use them as intervals in your day where you create an enriching environment for the whole family.
You can decide to use mealtimes to relax and to bond in deeper, more meaningful ways with your baby and child.
You can use mealtimes to teach your baby/child bout the foods you are eating, where they come from and why they are good for you.
You may also choose to use these times just to talk to baby, the more you talk and read to baby the better his/her vocabulary will be.
Another option would be to use the time to teach baby about gratitude.
Whichever of these practices you decide to use her are two basic ground rules that will support you in making these times the best most positive experiences possible:
1.Make mealtimes technology free zones.
2.Make it a rule that you only talk about positive things during meals.
